Here some noteworthy facts regarding the South American countries: Brazil is the largest country in South America in terms of area and population. Chile is 4275 km (2656 mi) long from north to south. However, the country is on average only 180 km (112 mi) wide.

Politically, French Guiana belongs to France (see the France - Regions Quiz). The ABC islands, north of the continent, are politically affiliated with the Netherlands indirectly (Aruba and Curaçao) or directly (Bonaire). The Falkland Islands are a British overseas territory; the United Kingdom assumes certain responsibilities over them. This is also the case with the island of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (not shown on the map).
