Russia is known to be the largest country in the world in terms of area. Administratively, the country is divided into eight large regions, known as federal districts. These are further divided into federal subjects.
Following the annexation of Crimea in 2014, the Federal District of Crimea was created. In mid-2016, Crimea was incorporated into the Southern Federal District. Under international law, Crimea is not recognized as part of Russia by a majority of UN member states. However, it is currently controlled by Russia. The map in this quiz shows the federal districts as they were before the annexation of Crimea.
